A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPLEMENTING RESOLUTION NO. R-26-0229, ADOPTED ON MAY 14, 2026, WHICH ESTABLISHED THE MIAMI TREE ORDINANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ("COMMITTEE") PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE XI, DIVISION 2, SECTION 2-883 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), INCREASING THE MEMBERSHIP FROM (10) TO ELEVEN (11) TO INCLUDE THE APPOINTMENT OF ONE MEMBER FROM THE CLIMATE RESILIENCE COMMITTEE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") is considering possible amendments to the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code"), regarding regulations governing the removal, relocation, pruning, planting, and trimming of trees, as set forth in Chapter 17, Article I of the City Code ("Tree Ordinance"); and

WHEREAS, following extensive public discussion regarding possible amendments to the Tree Ordinance, the City Commission finds it is in the best interest of the City to provide for a structured public engagement and advisory process; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. R-26-0229, adopted on May 14, 2026, the City Commission established the Miami Tree Ordinance Advisory Committee (β€œCommittee”) composed of members representing the City's various districts and diverse perspectives regarding tree protection, urban canopy preservation, neighborhood character, resiliency, and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, the Committee will assist the City Commission and City Administration in reviewing information, receiving public input, and developing recommendations regarding potential Tree Ordinance revisions and related tree canopy matters; and

WHEREAS, during the discussion of the implementation of the Stormwater Parks Offering Natural Green-Infrastructure Enhancement (β€œSPONGE”) Program Initiative during the City Commission meeting on June 25, 2026, City Commission further directed to expand the membership of the Committee to include participation by City’s Climate Resilience Committee as an at-large member; and

WHEREAS, the Committee will be compromised of eleven (11) members instead of ten (10) members; and

WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that adoption of this Resolution is in the best interests of the City;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:

Section 1.Β  The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.

Section 2.Β  The City Commission hereby supplements Resolution No. R-26-0229, adopted on May 14, 2026, which established the Committee pursuant to Chapter 2, Article XI, Division 2, Section 2-883 of the City Code, increasing the membership from ten (10) to eleven (11) to include the appointment of one (1) member from the Climate Resilience Committee by the City Commission as an at-large member.

Section 3.Β  This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
